George White - Barnabas Prep Coordinator

George White's journey to Camp Barnabas is one that we have always believed would happen - a person who has walked all the paths - volunteer, summer staff and year-round staff.

The summer before his freshman year of high school, he came to Camp Barnabas as a barnstormer. Only 14 years old, he says that week changed his life. "I had my eyes opened to a population of people who I had never really thought about before." He continued to come to camp each summer throughout high school and college with his youth group from California.

During the summer of 2010 he served on summer staff and was offered the opportunity to come on board year-round at camp to develop the Barnabas Prep program. This new part of Camp Barnabas will provide a residential learning environment for people with special needs in an academic year program, teaching life and job skills and providing community and spiritual growth opportunities. George also oversaw the Ministry Partner program in 2012 as well as worked with the traveling national camp team.

George graduated from California Baptist University with a bachelor's degree in Christian Studies. "During my time there, I had a great mentor in one of my professors, Jeff McNair. He instilled in me a passion for disability ministry. As a result of his influence, and the experience I have had at Camp Barnabas, I decided to commit my life to pursuing ministry for people with disabilities. The Lord has definitely affirmed that commitment by opening several doors for me in that direction. I have begun taking courses in a master's degree program in Disability Studies from CBU. But, most of all, the Lord has provided this remarkable opportunity to work for Camp Barnabas."
