The sibling program at Camp Barnabas is for those special family members who have not only observed the struggles of a brother or sister with a disability or chronic illness, but have often set aside their own dreams in exchange for being caregiver and friend.
Our program was written specifically for our camp by siblings who have served on our summer staff. It offers a week of challenges to grow in who God uniquely created them to be while helping them understand how He also uniquely created their brother or sister.
For more information on our sibling program, call our camper registrar, Kelli Hinderliter, at 417.708.5298. or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
CAMP HELPS SIBLINGS
Maya, my daughter with Down syndrome, loves the activities and counselors at Camp Barnabas. More importantly, in my opinion, Camp Barnabas gives my other two daughters a place to interact with peers who also have special needs siblings.
The needs and concerns of siblings are easily overlooked because so much of their families' time and resources are devoted to the disabled child. Their families differ from those of peers whose families have no special needs children.
For them, it's stressful and embarrassing to be "different." Camp Barnabas gives them friends with similar family situations which helps them to persevere in life.
